FADM reopens traffic on the Macomia-Mucojo section after one-week suspension

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The road stretch from Macomia-sede to the administrative posts of Mucojo and Quiterajo, in Cabo Delgado province, was reopened to traffic at the weekend after being closed for a week by the Mozambican Armed Defence Forces.

Sources told ‘Carta’ that, unlike when movement was banned, the military gave no reason for permitting the resumption of circulation by ‘chapas’ on the section.

The military closed the route about a week ago, claiming that the section was being used to transport food products that could advantage the terrorists, although some reports suggested rather that the measure was related to an operation against possible terrorist bases in an area between the administrative posts of Mucojo and Quiterajo.

With the opening of the section and the resumption of public transport facilitating the return of families to their home villages, the town of Macomia is once again receiving deliveries of fishery products.
