FIFA Announces 2026 Women’s AFCON Dates Awaiting CAF

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The dates for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have been quietly unveiled, with FIFA including them in a press release on Thursday following its council meeting — a move that appeared to catch the Confederation of African Football (CAF) off guard, as the continental body is yet to make an official announcement.

The 2026 finals, scheduled to take place in Morocco, will come just two years after the delayed 2024 edition, which was also hosted by the North African nation and concluded in July this year.

The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is to take hold from 17th March to 3rd April in Morocco.

Nigeria emerged champions after defeating Morocco in the final, while South Africa secured third place.

Like the previous edition, the 2026 tournament will feature 12 teams.

However, this time it carries added significance, as it will decide Africa’s four representatives at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Hosts Morocco are already guaranteed a spot in the finals, leaving 11 places up for grabs through the ongoing qualification series.

The final round of qualifiers is set for this month, with several key fixtures on the horizon.

Notably, defending bronze medalists South Africa will battle the Democratic Republic of Congo over two legs in their bid to book a ticket to Morocco.

The announcement of the dates by FIFA without prior CAF communication has raised eyebrows, but excitement is already building as Africa’s top women’s teams prepare to fight for continental glory and a chance to shine on the global stage in Brazil.
