Africa-Press – Mozambique. FIFA President Gianni Infantino will grace the finals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on August 30.

According to the Chairman of Kenya’s Local Organising Committee for CHAN, Nicholas Musonye, Infantino will be the chief guest as the eighth edition of the continental tournament that features domestic players only concludes.

“The Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe and all the 54 heads of national football on the continent will also be in attendance,” Musonye said.

The visit by the FIFA boss is described as a major boost for Kenyan football.

Organisers say Infantino’s presence is symbolic as it will also be his first visit to Kenya since becoming FIFA President.

The CHAN 2024 final marks the climax of a tournament hosted across three African countries, drawing large crowds and showcasing local talent.

Saturday’s match will feature Morocco against Madagascar, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

The visit also comes as the country prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Ministry of Sports, on the other hand, confirmed that security and logistical plans are in place for the high-profile visitors.

Ticket demand for the final has surged, with Kasarani expected to be at full capacity

The CHAN tournament, exclusively featuring players who play in their home countries, has been praised for its competitiveness and organisation.

Kenya’s hosting of CHAN has been closely watched by the continental football community.

The final will now take place on Saturday at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, where Morocco will chase a third title and Madagascar seek to make history as the first island nation to win the competition.

Infantino’s attendance at the finals is widely viewed as an endorsement of the country’s ability to stage major events.

President William Ruto, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed are also expected to be in attendance.
