FIFACWC: FIFA Cut Ticket Cost Ahead of Opening Game

Africa-Press – Mozambique. FIFA is reportedly cutting ticket costs for the June 14 Club World Cup opener, which will be hosted by Inter Miami, in an effort to fill a large number of empty seats.

According to a Wednesday report by The Athletic, ‘tens of thousands’ of seats at Miami Gardens, Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium, which has a capacity of 65,326 people, are still available for the 8 p.m. ET match between soccer ace Lionel Messi’s MLS team and Egypt’s Al-Ahly.

FIFA denied a claim that fewer than 20,000 tickets had been sold, stating that the figure was “much higher” without offering a precise figure.

“We are introducing many new, successful clubs from all over the world to the world through this tournament being staged in the 11 cities across the United States,” FIFA said in a statement.

“Overall, we anticipate great attendances throughout the competition for this first-ever edition — a tournament that we believe will grow edition-on-edition.”

Tickets for that game were only $55 on Ticketmaster as of Tuesday night, which is half of what they were selling for the previous month.

According to The Athletic, the most affordable ticket was $349 following the tournament draw in December, but by that time, it had fallen to $230.

MLS teams Inter Miami, Seattle Sounders, and Los Angeles FC are among the 32 teams competing in the FIFA Club World Cup, which runs until July 13. Other international powerhouses include Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Inter Milan.
