FIPAG promises resumption of water supply to Quelimane’s ‘cimento’ area

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Water Supply Investment and Assets Fund (FIPAG) has promised to restore normal water supply to the 13 neighbourhoods affected by the rupture of the water main supplying the ‘cement area’ of the city of Quelimane, in Zambézia province, by this Thursday, 29 September.

The rupture occurred near the city’s Central Market, and was fixed within hours by a FIPAG technical team who removed and replaced the damaged section.

Director of FIPAG Quelimane Operational Area Gilberto Fernando dos Santos reported that, as soon as the burst was registered, the institution implemented an alternative

supply of drinking water to the affected neighbourhoods by way of tanker trucks and a 20,000-litre reservoir placed at a strategic point.

Meanwhile, pumping from the Licuar and Nicoadala catchments was redirected to the Sampene Distribution Center, assuring continued supply to the Namunho, Murrobue, Singaraveira, Coalane, Sampane, Floresta B and 7 de Abril neighbourhoods.

The breakdown compromised the normal water supply of about 14,000 customers in the Piloto, Sinacura, Kansa 1 e 2, Aeroporto, Saguara, Toroni Novo e Velho, Isidua, Chuabo Dembe, Bairro Novo and Pequeno Brasil neighbourhoods.
