Africa-Press – Mozambique. The First Lady of the Republic of Mozambique, Her Excellency Gueta Selemane Chapo, visited Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) and the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), where she commended the high-quality specialized services and the use of modern technology in medical treatments.

During her visit, Madam Chapo was welcomed by MNH Executive Director, Professor Mohamed Janabi, who briefed her on the wide range of services offered across various departments. These included the Modern Assisted Reproductive Technology (IVF) Unit, the maternity ward, and cardiac surgery services for both children and adults at JKCI.

While touring the maternity ward, the First Lady distributed gifts to new mothers, and underscored the importance of providing quality care for mothers and new-borns, describing maternal and child health as a cornerstone for societal development.

At the IVF Unit, Madam Chapo was given a detailed explanation of the services provided to women and men facing fertility challenges through advanced reproductive technologies. She expressed admiration for the program’s success and emphasized the need to strengthen similar services in Mozambique.

At the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute, the First Lady was briefed on the specialized heart surgery and treatment services offered to both paediatric and adult patients. She witnessed medical experts at work and praised the quality of care delivered, highlighting the role of international partnerships in enhancing such services.

In her discussions with hospital leaders, Madam Chapo impressed by the level of services and technological advancement at MNH and JKCI. She noted that the insights gained from the visit would contribute to fostering deeper collaboration between Mozambique and Tanzania, particularly in the fields of cardiac health, reproductive services, and specialized medical care
