Africa-Press – Mozambique. A major fire broke out on Wednesday on a fishing vessel near Xefina Island, the capital of the country, during fishing activities.
According to maritime authorities, the Mozambican-flagged artisanal fishing boat was completely destroyed after being engulfed in flames caused by a short circuit in the engine room.
The vessel, capable of carrying 12 crew members, had four occupants at the time of the incident, who were rescued by fishermen nearby.
After learning of the incident, a team from the Maritime Administration of Maputo (ADMAR) went to the scene and found that the vessel had a valid navigability certificate but did not have insurance, which constitutes a violation of the Fishing Rights Concession Regulation and Fishing Licensing.
