Africa-Press – Mozambique. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) received yesterday (26) in Maputo, five more party candidacies, increasing from four to nine political formations with submissions.

These include the second largest opposition party, the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM), and the extraparliamentary parties Patriotic Movement for Democracy (MPD), PANAMO/CRD, MONARUMO, and PJDM.

Moments after the submission, the president of the MDM National Council, Casimiro Nacional, and his representative, revealed that the MDM presidential candidate will be announced at the Ordinary Session of the National Council starting on May 4th in the city of Beira, the capital of the central province of Sofala.

“After the party’s registration to run in the upcoming elections, it will have its meeting, during which, among various matters, it will review the economic report, this year’s activity plan, and the candidate’s profile,” he announced.

MPD President Matias Banze stated that his party will run for parliament and governor in the provinces of Tete, Gaza, Manica, Maputo, and Sofala.

Banze, after submitting his party’s registration, said extraparliamentary parties are at a disadvantage compared to those with parliamentary seats.

“The three parties in parliament have two, three, or four advantages. First, they have funds, they have the press that always talks about them, while we extraparliamentary parties are avoided by the press,” he said.

He emphasized that despite the constraints caused by lack of funds, his party is working and will continue to work nationwide to win the elections.

Rodrigues Timba, the coordinator of legal and ethics affairs at the CNE, explained that the validation of the submitted candidacies depends on review and verification, and political parties would be notified.

The CNE expects to receive, for registration purposes, the Union for Change (UM) party, the Party of Democratic Reconciliation (PAREDE), and the UDM party.

The registration of political parties will culminate in the VII General-Presidential and Legislative Elections, IV for Provincial Assembly Members, and Provincial Governor, scheduled for October 9th of this year.
