Africa-Press – Mozambique. Six miners died in Tete province as a result of a mine collapse in Ntengo wa Nyenje, in Ulongue, Angónia district, during gold extraction activities.

Among the fatalities were five women engaged in illegal artisanal mining.

The incident, which happened this Tuesday (08-08), also caused serious injuries to another miner who is receiving medical care.

A community leader in Ntengo wa Nyenje expressed concern, noting that a large part of the population there practises illegal mining to support themselves.

The Angónia district government on Wednesday deployed a multi-sectoral team to the incident site.
