Africa-Press – Mozambique. The 2022 Commonwealth Games ended on Sunday, with Mozambican boxer Rady Gramane winning the silver medal, after losing in the final to Canadian boxer Tamara Thiboalt.
Mozambican boxeuse Alcinda Panguana, in turn, won the bronze medal, after losing the semi-final against the Australian, Kaye Scott.
In the men’s boxing, Tiago Muxanga won the silver medal, after losing against Adam Wash, from Northern Ireland.
In his debut year, Muxanga makes history, as do Gramane and Panguana. They now join Mozambicans Lurdes Mutola, Tina da Glória and Maria Manuela, all of whom have won medals in the English-speaking community games.

Mozambique’s first participation dates back to 1998, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. That year, the country won two medals, one gold and one silver, by Lurdes Mutola and Argentina da Glória Paulino respectively, both in the 800 metres race.
The second participation was in 2002, in Manchester, with Lurdes Mutola again winning gold. Mozambique’s third presence was in 2006, in Melbourne, Australia, with a bronze medal also won by Lurdes Mutola. The fourth participation was in 2010, in New Delhi, India, without any medal.
Mozambique’s fifth appearance was in 2014, in Glasgow, Scotland, with Maria Manuela winning bronze in women’s boxing. In 2018, there were no medals for Mozambique, but 2022 saw a come-back, with boxing again making us proud.
