Former combatants complain of scams in Cabo Delgado’s Provincial Directorate of Economy and Finance – Carta

Africa-PressMozambique. Members of the National Liberation Struggle Combatants Association (ACLLN) in Mueda district, Cabo Delgado province, say they are victims of frequent and systematic scams in the Provincial Directorate of Economy and Finance.

The complaint was raised last week at a meeting with ACLLIN Secretary General, Fernando Faustino.

The former combatants say a group of civil servants at Cabo Delgado’s Provincial Directorate of Economy and Finance have been systematically swindling new members of the association when assessing their pensions.

According to Agostinho Nacimue, whenever former combatants present a new claimant, finance officials demand 50% of the pension amount to facilitate the process. If not forthcoming, the new member’s case stagnates.

Fernando Faustino agreed that combatants must denounce activities of this nature to the authorities, while the General Commander of Police, who was also at the meeting, said that the corporation would locate the offenders.
