Africa-Press – Mozambique. The demobilisation of more than 400 former Renamo combatants at the Mapangapanga base in Vunduzi, Gorongosa district, formerly known as Renamo Central Base, which was supposed to have begun on Monday (19-12), did not happen because neither the ex-combatants nor Renamo leader Ossufo Momade were present.

So far, no one has given any reason for the boycott.

The representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mirko Manzoni, who had already announced the dismantling of the last Renamo base, indicated only that the President of the Republic and the leader from Renamo were discussing the matter.

No new date has yet been given for the completion of the DDR process, which was officially scheduled to end this year.

Former Renamo combatants have generally been dissatisfied with the DDR process, given that those demobilised are not so far receiving their pensions, and there seems to be little movement in this direction.
