Africa-Press – Mozambique. Three Mozambicans, aged 27, 43 and 50, were detained on Monday after being caught in Chifunde district, Tete province, in possession of four elephant tusks, weighing in total around 70 kilograms.

National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) spokeswoman Celina Roque revealed on Tuesday in the city of Tete that the three men had been arrested after information was received from the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) regarding a group of individuals trying to sell wild animal trophies in their possession.

All three detainees deny involvement in poaching, but did say that they had acquired the tusks from Malawian poachers, and would earn a percentage of the sale value.
