Africa-Press – Mozambique. The deputies of the Frelimo bench in the Assembly of the Republic, Mozambique’s parliament, will from now on attend training and capacity-building courses offered by the Faculty of Law at Eduardo Mondlane University, covering topics related to legislative production, Rádio Moçambique reports. To implement this initiative, the Frelimo bench and the Faculty of Law at UEM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday in Maputo.

Furthermore, according to a note published on the Frelimo bench Facebook page, the agreement also guarantees Frelimo deputies access to “technical and legal opinions and scientific support in the analysis of draft laws and complex legislative matters.”

The MoU “aims to raise technical standards, strengthen the quality of deputies’ interventions, and ensure that debates and legislation benefit from the knowledge produced by the country’s oldest institution of legal education,” adds the same source.

The head of the Frelimo bench, Feliz Silvia, said the programme will help improve the quality of debates in plenary sessions and strengthen the democratic rule of law.

Eduardo Chiziane, director of the Faculty of Law at UEM, added that the agreement is not merely an administrative act but a recognition that modern governance and high-quality legislative work require ongoing dialogue between academia and Parliament.

Under this agreement, students and lecturers from the Faculty of Law at UEM will have access to the Assembly of the Republic to take practical classes in Parliamentary Law.
