Frelimo has defined the profile for candidates in the elections scheduled for October 9th

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Frelimo party has already outlined the profile for the candidates in the upcoming elections on October 9th through the approval of the directive on the election of candidates for the Presidency of the Republic, Assembly of the Republic, Provincial Assembly, and head of the provincial list.

Frelimo’s Spokesperson explained that the final document will be shared after review and approval by the Frelimo Political Commission.

Ludmila Maguni stated that, as of now, the names for Filipe Nyusi’s succession are not yet known.

“Regarding succession, we have been looking at the country’s situation, the challenges it faces, and how this successor can continue the programs that President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and his government have carried out. So, basically, this is the direction we have been discussing. Some people have been saying that it would be in the interest to close the process as quickly as possible, but the President and the members of the Central Committee share the same opinion that we need to pay close attention to this process because we want to choose someone who is consensual, both within the party and that the Mozambican people also identify with,” she said.

Frelimo’s Spokesperson, however, denied reports that Samora Machel Junior and Sérgio Pantie are pre-candidates.

Delegates at the III ordinary session of the Frelimo Central Committee continue to meet behind closed doors in these final hours of the event that has been taking place at the Frelimo party’s Central School in Matola city, Maputo province.
