Africa-PressMozambique. The succession debate in the Frelimo political party has come out of the shadows and is beginning to gain some clarity. Without being formally presented, some names have been floated, as if to test the waters.

Secretary General of Frelimo, Roque Silva has warned that he does not want voluntary candidates volunteering for party leadership positions, nor situations that may result in internal divisions.

“Nobody has to start preparing to be a candidate now. This thing about being a candidate, you can’t be a volunteer. Wait a minute. The others will say you can be a candidate. Nobody should be a volunteer, I want, I want. Who said that you should want? We’re the ones who have to want you to want. It’s not you saying that I want. This is what divides us a lot of times,” Silva said on Sunday during a working visit to Frelimo members in Zambezia province.

Silva asked the Frelimo youth (OJM) and women members (OMM) to avoid divisions and internal intrigues, taking into account next year’s Frelimo congress.

“If this OJM congress ends with internal division, and the OMM congress ends with internal divisions, it could influence the 12th congress, which takes place from 23 to 28 September next year. We may finish our 12th congress with agitation that started at the congresses of social organizations,” he warned.
