Africa-Press – Mozambique. Frelimo will review its statutes in order to increasingly improve the definition of the nature, principles and working methods of the party, taking into account the new dynamics at the domestic and international level, Filipe Nyusi has announced.

The revelation was made in Maputo today by the president of the ruling party, Filipe Nyusi, speaking at the opening of the second extraordinary session of the Frelimo Central Committee, a one-day meeting convened to debate the agenda of the XII Congress, to be held from 23 to 28 September, in Matola, Maputo province.

Nyusi added that the “revision of the Frelimo programme essentially aims to reaffirm our vision of development focused on building a society which is prosperous, inclusive, united, harmonious and socially just, centred on the defence of the highest interests of all Mozambicans”.

The Frelimo president also said that the session would take stock of the preparatory activities for the party congress, from the study of suggestions submitted to general meetings, and encouraged the participants to debate the documents in an open manner.

In turn, Frelimo Secretary General Roque Silva welcomed the efforts undertaken by the party members in pursuit of the objectives defined in the previous (XI) congress.

Debate was conducted without the presence of journalists, with a press conference scheduled for the end of the one-day session.
