Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Ronald Muench, began his second working visit to Nampula province yesterday (28.04), which will take place between April 28 and 30. The main objective of this trip is to assess how German cooperation projects contribute to improve the well-being of the population and professional prospects, especially for young people and the displaced population.

An essential part of this visit will consist of holding official meetings with the new government, representatives of the private sector, culture and civil society.

“During my first visit, I got to know Nampula Province as a province of economic potential and cultural and natural beauty, with a dynamic and resilient population. The province was affected by the post-election crisis and devastating cyclones. Now I am coming back to hear the voices of the people of Nampula, to see how our cooperation contributes to improve wellbeing and to show that Germany is with the people of Nampula,” declared Ronald Muench on the eve of his trip.

The province benefits from a large portfolio of German cooperation projects in the sectors of internal displacement, decentralization, access to clean energy, technical and vocational training and private sector development with a total of 30 million euros.

During visit, the Ambassador will have official meetings with the Governor of the Province, Eduardo Abdula and the President of the Municipal Council of the City of Nampula, Luís Giquira. A meeting is also planned with the president of the National Association of Municipalities of Mozambique (ANAMM), João Ferreira, for an exchange on decentralization in the municipalities.

A major theme of the visit will be the situation of displaced persons and refugees. Ambassador Muench will visit the Maratane Refugee Center, meeting with displaced families and refugee students. In the Rapale district, where GIZ and UNHCR are implementing a joint project focused on Technical and Vocational Education and Training, he will have exchanges with young trainees that have been displaced.
