Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER), in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is committed to strengthening and promoting resilience among producer families and rural communities.

To this end, the Mozambican government has signed a financing agreement of around 10 million meticais with the American government to strengthen the agricultural market information system.

“This system will allow small producers to sell their products at a fair price,” said the Inspector-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Rui Mapatsa, after signing the agreement last Friday (19) in Maputo.

The source explained that the Agricultural Market Information System (SIMA) platform will enable producers, especially those in the family sector, to sell their products based on market values available on the platform.

“This platform will enhance the value of the small farmer’s product, who often sold their products at an unfair price that did not compensate for their investment and effort,” he said.

Valter Cumbi, Executive Director of SIMA-digital, clarified that the platform provides information on products and their respective prices in a timely manner.

“Users can access information on products and prices from 11 districts, six in the central province of Zambézia, and five in the northern province of Nampula, where the project is being implemented,” he said.

On his part, the director of the Feed The Future Resilience Integrated in Agriculture and Nutrition (FTF RESINA) project, Nephas Munyeche, said that the initiative aims to contribute to the integration of producers, rural families, and other market actors into productive and profitable value chains.

“We aim to empower producers’ ability to compete in the market, help them realize new business approaches, and, above all, with the power of market information, transform them into resilient actors capable of seizing and utilizing every opportunity the market offers,” he said.

FTF RESINA is a five-year project (2022-2027) funded by USAID as part of the Feed the Future initiative of the US government in combating hunger and promoting food security worldwide.

TFT RESINA follows a local food systems approach centered on agriculture that integrates climate change adaptation capacities, focusing on innovation, accessible water solutions, and agriculture accessible to nutrition.

Michael Nicholson, Director of the USAID-MOZAMBIQUE Resilient Economic Growth Office, assured that the American government will continue to support the agricultural sector in Mozambique.
