This Tuesday, the government dismissed António Matos as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Maputo Metropolitan Transport Agency (AMT), a public institution created by Decree No. 85/2017 of December 29 to plan and manage the integrated transport system in the municipalities of Maputo, Matola, and Boane, as well as other adjacent areas in Maputo province.
To replace António Matos, the executive appointed Fernando Andela, who, until his appointment, had served as National Director of Transport and Safety at the Ministry of Transport and Logistics since November 2024.
Andela holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies and is a senior official at the Ministry Of Transports and Logistics, where he has held various management and leadership positions, most notably Director of Infrastructure Services for Maputo Province, a position he held at the time of this appointment.
According to cabinet spokesperson Inocêncio Impissa, the Council of Ministers in its 27th ordinary session also approved a resolution appointing Paulo Fumane to the position of Chairman of the National Roads Administration (ANE), replacing Elias Paulo, who has held the position since 2022.
In the same session, the executive approved the resolution appointing Oswaldo Petersburgo to the position of Chairman of the Blue Economy Development Fund – ProAzul, replacing Simeão Lopes, who has held the position since 2022. Petersburgo served as Secretary of State for Youth and Employment during Filipe Nyusi’s term of office.
During their weekly meeting, the Council of Ministers also reviewed the report on activities carried out within the scope of Asset Management in 2024, as stipulated in Law 13/2020 of December 23, which establishes the special legal regime for the extended confiscation of assets and asset recovery, and which creates the Central Asset Recovery Office within the Attorney General’s Office and the Asset Management Office within the Ministry of Finance.
“In this context, the Asset Management Office is in possession of assets seized in 2024 in the cities of Nampula, Nacala, and Maputo: two hotels, 17 properties and warehouses, 21 offices and stores, two mosques, a school, a clinic and a restaurant. The Office also received several vehicles, including trucks and tractors, including 28 vehicles, five trucks, and 17 tractors. Also seized that same year were 18 vehicle sales lots, containing just over 600 vehicles, as well as assets belonging to a farm, such as several properties, including tractors, excavators, and various agricultural production equipment,” Impissa detailed.
During the session, the government reviewed information on the 60th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM), to be held from August 25 to 31, 2025. The Council of Ministers was informed of the participation of 27 countries, 800 foreign exhibitors, and 2,350 national exhibitors.
According to Impissa, the FACIM organizers expect to welcome approximately 70,000 visitors. This edition’s country and province of honour are South Africa and Gaza province, respectively. In terms of organization, all the necessary conditions are in place for this edition of FACIM, with parallel events planned, including the Mozambique-South Africa Business Forum.
The government was also informed of the Africa Diplomatic Tourism and Investment Forum (ADTIF) 2025, to be held in Maputo from August 20 to 22, and the International Tourism Conference in Vilanculo, Inhambane province, in November of this year.
