Government seeks public input to revamp territorial planning laws

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The government seeks greater involvement of society in revising legislation on territorial planning, proposing solutions that are suitable for the country’s current challenges, aiming to promote economic and sustainable development.

To this end, a public consultation on the revision of the legal framework for territorial planning and urban land, designated “Our Territory,” was held yesterday in Maputo.

The National Director of Lands and Territorial Planning at the Ministry of Land and Environment, Joaquim Langa, stated that the approval of a new legal instrument will mitigate the effects of climate change.

The Secretary of State in the City of Maputo, Vicente Joaquim, emphasized that the inclusion of communities in the discussion of this law will strengthen the sustainable management of natural resources and the environment.

Environmental activist Carlos Serra believes that the revision of the law, 26 years later, could simplify understanding and usage for the public.

The process of revising the legislative package is budgeted at over one million eight hundred and eighty thousand US dollars and will end in October.
