Africa-Press – Mozambique. Developments by mining company ADH Mining Development in Nipepe district, Niassa province, are contributing to the development of the local economy.

Although still under construction, the new plant employs 250 people, with the promise of a total 400 jobs when production starts.

According to Nipepe administrator Sérgio Agostinho Igua, peanuts, corn and sesame, in the past flagship crops in the district, are losing ground with the discovery and exploitation of graphite, a high-value mineral that will put that area on the national development map.

“Currently, a plant is being built and equipment installed for graphite processing. At the moment, there are around 250 workers employed – young people from this district and other corners of the province, and also from the neighbouring district of Lalaua, in Nampula,”District Administrator Igua explained.

Environmental engineer at AHD Mining, Pedro Jeremias Chivale announced that a bridge over the Lúrio River would be built to facilitate the transfer of ore to the Port of Nacala in Nampula province.

“We have already hired 120 local workers for the job. The bridge will be 307 metres long, with lanes in both directions, as well as for pedestrians and cyclists,” Chivale revealed, adding that the material for the construction of the bridge was already in storage.
