Africa-Press – Mozambique. Four roads are impassable in Niassa province following the intense rains that have fallen over the past few days. These include:
Mandimba/Cuamba, interrupted due to the washing away of the road platform near the Muanda and Lussengasse rivers;
Cuamba/Malema, impassable due to erosion and the displacement of culverts on the under-construction road diversion near Malema, as well as the overflow of the Namutibua River at km 5+000;
Cuamba/Mecanhelas, blocked by the washing away of the road platform caused by the overflow of the Muanda River and the rising water level in the settlement of Caronga, in Mecanhelas district;
Cuamba/Etatara, impassable due to the washing away of the road platform caused by the overflow of the Muanda River.
According to the National Road Administration (ANE), another four roads have restricted traffic. These are: Cuamba/Metarica/Mauá/Marrupa; Mussa/Muembe/Chiconono; Unango/Macalodge/Matchedge; and Marrupa/Mecula — all restricted to four-wheel-drive (4×4) vehicles due to saturated road surfaces and slippery soils.
The ANE stated that several technical teams are on the ground monitoring the situation, facing difficulties due to the ongoing rain.
