Africa-Press – Mozambique. Inês Moiane, a defendant at the undeclared debts trial, was hospitalised last night (November 15) in a Maputo health unit with her blood pressure at 200, her lawyer Isálcio Mahanjane has revealed.

“The limits [of her blood pressure] were substantially exceeded,” Mahanjane said “The situation does not look good”.

Judge Efigénio Baptista yesterday said that it would now be necessary to wait for a more up-to-date clinical report [on Inês Moiane’s health], because doctors at first merely confirmed that the defendant had health problems, but nothing serious enough to prevent her attending court sessions.

Inês Moiane fell and passed out yesterday, Notícias reports, as she was walking from the courtroom tent to the tent reserved for co-defendants. She fell into the latter, where she intended to spend the meal break, and was immediately assisted by security officers on duty.

Informed of the incident, the judge interrupted the court session and went to the tent where he spoke with the defendant before ordering her urgent hospitalisation. Prior to being taken in the car by her nephew and co-defendant Elias Moiane, Inês Moiane was assisted by a health technician working at the Machava penitentiary (B.O.), where the marquee housing the trial has been erected.

According to report by O País on September 5, Moiane’s lawyer at the time Alexandre Chivale had asked that the defendant be excused from the hearings after her interrogation. The request was made on the grounds that Inês Moiane was not in good health, presenting a medical report according to which she needed to eat every two hours.
