Hiring foreign labor – A draft regulation proposal is in consultation phase

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The drafting of regulations for rural labor, hiring foreign labor, and private employment agencies is currently in an advanced stage, with the document expected to be submitted to the Council of Ministers soon.

This assurance was given recently in Maputo during a meeting with the coordinating team of the Economic Acceleration Package (PAE) as part of the implementation of measure 14.

According to Fernanda Lopes, legal advisor of the PAE, the proposal drafting process is currently in the consultation stage with other sectors and social partners for harmonization and consensus.

To overcome challenges in seeking input for regulations on emerging issues such as domestic work, oil-related work, and new modalities (seasonal work, telecommuting, and others), the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security (MITESS) is seeking legal advice.

Furthermore, teams from MITESS and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) have agreed on a schedule of activities to expedite the regulation of laws.

MITESS also informed that they have established a consultation schedule with other sectors regarding the new instruments, with the domestic work regulation expected to be ready by May 1st.
