Hospital Maintenance Revitalization Project Launched

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s Ministry of Health (MISAU), with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), on Monday launched the Hospital Maintenance Revitalisation Project at a ceremony held at the Infulene Health Sciences Institute.

The initiative aims to strengthen the maintenance of medical equipment nationwide, ensuring longer durability, preventing breakdowns, and improving the quality of services provided to patients.

The ceremony was led by the Minister of Health, Ussene Isse, who highlighted the project’s importance for the sustainability of the health system. “Investing in preventive maintenance is investing in the health of our people. Well-maintained equipment means safer and more efficient services for all Mozambicans,” emphasised the Minister.

The launch was also attended by the Ambassador of Japan to Mozambique and a JICA representative, who reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the strengthening of the health sector in Mozambique.

In this pilot phase, the project will benefit six hospitals across four provinces: Cabo Delgado, Niassa, Gaza, and Maputo City (through Maputo Central Hospital). To enable the project’s implementation, IT equipment and tools were provided to the participating provinces.

According to project representatives, the initiative will standardise procedures, improve equipment monitoring and calibration, reduce the impact of breakdowns, and strengthen communication and coordination across different levels of the health sector.

Around 30 participants are receiving training, including maintenance technicians from central offices, provincial and hospital maintenance heads, as well as health sector managers.
