IMOPETRO launches tender for fuel supplier

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s fuel importing company, IMOPETRO, is looking for its next supplier of jet fuel, diesel and gasoline. In mid-July, 2022, it was announced that fuel supply from September to November this year would be secured by the French company, Totsa, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies.

In an international public tender, released a few days ago, IMOPETRO announced that it needs 150,000 metric tons (TM) of “premium unleaded” gasoline, 25,000 MT of jet fuel and 400,000 MT of 50 ppm diesel over another three months.

In the document, IMOPETRO states that the tender will be governed by procedures similar to those specified in the World Bank guidelines for international public tenders, and is open to all eligible bidders. Interested bidders must purchase the specifications at a non-refundable price of US$25,000.

By Decree nº 45/2012 of 28 December, IMOPETRO is the only entity responsible for importing fuels into Mozambique. According to the decree, the measure aims to reduce costs arising from imports and provide greater gains from the process. IMOPETRO currently has 29 fuel distribution companies operating in the country.
