Inhambane: Two teachers accused of rape and sexual harassment of students

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Two teachers in Inhambane accused of sexual harassment and rape of their students will face trial in the coming days. The accused are teachers from the Secondary School 25 De Setembro in Homoíne and Macanda Primary School in Jangamo.

The victims are 16 and 13 years old, respectively.

The student from Homoíne was summoned by the teacher to a meeting, allegedly to discuss learning issues, but upon arrival at the location, the accused took the minor to a tourist complex where they had sexual relations.

In the Jangamo case, the teacher asked his student to wash dishes at his house, and then dragged her into the bedroom, where he satisfied his sexual appetites.

In both situations, the teachers threatened the victims with failing their classes if they did

not comply with their wishes.

Both cases were reported to the Public Ministry, which began the investigations that led to the formal accusation of the two teachers.

Juliana Boa, the spokesperson for the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Inhambane, expressed regret for the behaviour of the two individuals involved, saying that they were are educators, which demands a heightened sense of responsibility.

The source emphasized that the two teachers would be held accountable as a deterrent against this type of practice in schools. Boa said that the institution would relentlessly pursue all cases of sexual harassment in the province’s schools.
