Africa-Press – Mozambique. Japan’s prime minister, Fumio Kishida, will make an official visit to Mozambique on Wednesday, which includes a meeting with Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi, and participation in a forum on bilateral trade and investment, an official source told Portuguese news agency Lusa.
Fumio Kishida’s trip to Maputo is part of a tour he has been making to Africa since Sunday, visiting Egypt, where he met with the head of state, Abdel Fattah al Sisi, Japanese government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno said at a press conference.
On Monday, the Japanese prime minister visited Ghana and attended a summit with President Nana Akufo-Addo, he added.
Fumio Kishida is today in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, for a meeting with Kenya’s President William Ruto.
In Maputo, in addition to the meeting with Nyusi, Kishida will take part in an event on promoting trade and investment, which will be attended by Mozambique’s ministers of economy and finance, Max Tonela, and transport and communications, Mateus Magala.
The Japanese government will offer Mozambique a surveillance ship and air navigation equipment, budgeted at over US$23 million (over e21 million), the minister of foreign affairs and cooperation announced on 6 April.
As part of the understanding, Tokyo will provide a surveillance ship, still under construction, costing US$830,000 (€760,000), and air navigation equipment, estimated at US$22.5 million (€20.6 million), Macamo said.
The tour to Africa, the first since Fumio Kishida took office in October 2021, aims to strengthen relations between Tokyo and the continent.
