Liverpool Crown Successful Season with Draw against Palace

Africa-Press – Mozambique. After a triumphant season, Liverpool ended their Premier League title-winning season with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday in Anfield.

Ismaila Sarr’s opening goal was nullified by Mohamed Salah’s late equaliser.

Palace supporters, still feeling the high from last weekend’s FA Cup final victory, chimed in with an early cry of “champions” as the match took place in a festive mood, with the league coming to a close with four games remaining.

Although giving up hardly dampened the celebration, Sarr scored in the ninth minute after Tyrick Mitchell, who had intercepted a loose pass from Conor Bradley, had found him in acres of open.

Luis Diaz came near three times in quick succession as Liverpool gradually gained the upper hand in the match.

He shot just wide and then headed over the bar before being stopped by a brilliant save by Palace custodian Dean Henderson.

On his 354th and final Liverpool game, Trent Alexander-Arnold was introduced at halftime to a resounding reception after being jeered by some supporters following the news of his leaving.

Henderson stood tall as the Liverpool academy product, who is rumoured to be headed to Real Madrid, came close to producing one last iconic assist.

He played in Darwin Nunez with a brilliant ball that left his former manager Juergen Klopp speechless in the seats.

However, Liverpool kept pushing forward despite Ryan Gravenberch’s straight red with just over 20 minutes remaining, which means he will miss the opening match of the upcoming season.

Liverpool’s season appeared to be headed for another loss when replacement Diogo Jota smashed a shot against the post with fifteen minutes remaining.

Salah, however, equalled Andy Cole and Alan Shearer’s record of 47 goal involvements in a Premier League season in the 84th minute with a karate-kick finish from inside the area, his 29th league goal of the year.

A number of Liverpool legends were present, including Ian Rush, the Reds’ all-time top scorer, who presented Salah with his Golden Boot and Playmaker of the Season medals.

Then, captain Virgil van Dijk received the Premier League trophy for the second time.
