Africa-Press – Mozambique. The city of Maputo continues to suffer from failures in the collection of solid waste, with a lot of garbage lying around in streets and main arteries after the suspension of service by the contracted company and the municipality’s own efforts to undertake the task.
In the 25 de Junho, George Dimitrov and Magoanine C neighbourhoods, the situation is parlous, with garbage containers full and trash overflowing.
Some residents have resorted to burning waste left outside the containers in order to prevent the proliferation of insects and rodents.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Maputo and the company responsible for garbage collection yesterday reached an agreement that makes a resumption of service possible.
Inspection carried out by ‘Notícias’ found some containers in the Maxaquene B and C and Polana-Caniço neighbourhoods already emptied, but with lots of garbage still strewn about, presenting an unpleasant appearance and endangering the health of passers-by.
