Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Lower Limpopo irrigation district in Gaza province has recorded a shortfall in rice production of around 13,000 tonnes for the about-to-end 2022-2023 agricultural campaign, Radio Mozambique reports.

The chairman of the Regadio do Baixo Limpopo indicates that, of the more than 48,000 tonnes anticipated for the current campaign, the two irrigation schemes, in Xai-Xai and Chókwè, produced just over 35,000 tons of rice.

Armando Usivane blames birds and floods in February and March as the main causes of the disappointing yield, but nevertheless characterises the harvest as “satisfactory”.
