Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mafambisse sugar factory in Dondo district, Sofala province, this year recorded a fall in production of more than 300 tons compared to the previous season.

The firm expects to produce around 37,800 tons of sugar in the current season, against more than 38,200 tons from the previous harvest.

The pandemic crisis, with its associated devastation of agricultural fields, plus some problems related to equipment, are indicated as having contributed to the decline.

The information was shared on Wednesday by Albertina Lubrino, director for socio-economic development and local affairs at the Mafambisse sugar factory, during a visit by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno.

In reply, Minister Moreno encouraged the factory’s managers to increase production levels despite the adversities.
