Africa-Press – Mozambique. A 23-year-old citizen was detained by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) on the 31st of December, accused of drugging and raping a 16-year-old minor.
Maputo PRM spokesperson Marta Perreira related that the victim accepted the offer of a lift from a stranger, who took her to a party where she was drugged and then taken to an accommodation house close to the 7th Precinct Police Station, where she was raped.
“We abhor this type of behaviour and call on society to avoid sexual exploitation, especially of minors,” Perreira said, adding that the detainee would respond in court.
According to Miramar, the victim is still receiving medical care in a Maputo health unit for the serious injuries incurred during the incident.
The accused man however told Miramar it was not rape “We exchanged [phone] numbers, we fell in love. All of a sudden they’re saying that I committed rape,” the man said.
