Manica: 12 motorcycle taxi drivers killed in accidents in the last three months

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Twelve motorcycle taxi drivers have died in accidents in Manica province, in the centre of the country, in the last three months.

The situation has led traffic police there to launch a campaign to seize the vehicles of drivers caught carrying out dangerous manoeuvres and riding without protective helmets.

Road accidents involving motorbikes are frequent in the province, especially in Chimoio, the provincial capital. It is common for three or more people to travel on one motorbike, and driving the wrong way up traffic lanes is almost routine.

The Traffic Police in Chimoio have said that, in the next few days, they will join INATRO and Chimoio municipal police to neutralize motorbike drivers who disregard traffic rules in the province.
