Africa-PressMozambique. Maputo mayor Eneas Comiche has officially handed over improved housing to the 22 families who were victims of a fire in Bairro de Chamanculo D, in Nhlamankulu municipal district.

On the occasion, Eneas Comiche gave thanks for the moral and psycho-social support given to the victims of the fire by individuals and groups, including neighbourhood structures, social, socio-professional, religious, governmental and non-governmental organizations, political parties and other national authorities.

“For this reason, I once again acknowledge and address my thanks to all those who contributed directly or indirectly to these families regaining a roof over their heads in a relatively short period of time,” Mayor Comiche said.

Mayor Comiche said he was concerned about the conditions of informal neighbourhoods, and especially their vulnerability to factors such as fire that happened, adding that the municipal council planned to improve conditions through requalification, increasing public spaces and opening streets.

The construction of new homes for residents of the historic neighbourhood of Chamanculo is part of the assistance and support programme for needy and vulnerable people.

The residents in question saw their old houses totally destroyed in the fire of 12 August, forcing the city council to find them temporary shelter and mobilise support in basic products and construction material from public and private institutions, a process finally culminating in the delivery of the new, improved infrastructure.
