Maputo National Park Shares 20% Revenue With Communities

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Maputo National Park on Thursday handed over 20% of its 2024 revenue from sustainable exploitation of natural resources to communities of Matutuíne district.

As part of the 20% allocation, 21 communities in the buffer zone of Maputo National Park (PNAM) in Matutuíne district, Maputo province, received more than 3.7 million meticais from the park.

This amount represents a 21% increase compared to the 2023 revenue.

The delivery of this amount was made possible thanks to the leadership of Maputo National Park and the dedication of the community engagement team, as well as other sectors involved. This results from continued investment by the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) and the Peace Parks Foundation, which have invested heavily in protecting flora and fauna, contributing to a significant increase in the number of visitors and tourists to the region.

The official handover ceremony was presided over by the Secretary of State for Maputo province, Henriques Bongence, who was accompanied by the members of the park administration and of the provincial and district governments.

During the event, Bongece emphasized the importance of a strong relationship between communities and the Maputo National Park, emphasizing the crucial role of this cooperation in protecting natural resources, which, when well managed, generate direct and sustainable benefits for local populations.
