Africa-Press – Mozambique. Around 240 kilometres of roads have limited passability following the rain that fell in Maputo province in the last 48 hours.

These are dirt roads in the districts of Matutuíne, Manhiça and Magude, plus approximately 900 kilometres of paved roads throughout the rest of the province.

Currently, it is only possible to use these roads with four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Releasing this information, provincial delegate of the National Roads Administration in Maputo, Rubina Noormomad, said that contractors were ready to intervene where necessary.

The roads sector in Maputo province needs around 85 million meticais (US$1.3 billion at current exchange rates) to face possible events in the current rainy season.

Sector authorities are appealing to road users to plan their journeys according to only the latest information.
