Maputo province: Water supply restricted to once a week only in Namaacha town

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Water supply in the border town of Namaacha, in Maputo province, is restricted, directly affecting its more-than 17,000 inhabitants, who currently receive water only once a week.

At issue is the rupture of the electrical cable to the water collection and supply centre in the region.

The situation has persisted for around six months, with families in some neighbourhoods not having had water in their taps for the last two months.

This is causing the residents inconvenience; they say they are forced to consume unsuitable water from wells in the town.

The president of Namaacha Municipal Council, Paulo Chitiva, says he is aware of the problem, and that measures are being taken to address the situation.
