Africa-Press – Mozambique. Xipamanine market in the city of Maputo has been facing serious water supply problems since Monday (20-11), leaving vendors of one of the main and oldest markets in the country’s capital in a quandary.
Traders there have already contacted the administration in order to resolve the problem, but so far without a favourable response.
The situation becomes even more alarming because of the recent heat wave in the city, putting the individual and collective hygiene of everyone who frequents the place at risk.
One Xipamanine trader, Amade Manhiça, told Noticias that the water crisis had already lasted three days, with no end in sight.
Noticias heard from women who prepare food in the market that the situation was already creating embarrassment. They said that, to ensure food was prepared, they were reduced to using water from an old borehole there.
