Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, visited musician Dilon Djindji in Maputo Central Hospital on Saturday.
Djindji, who is 96 years old, has been under hospital care since Monday of last week (15-07), when he fell ill and was admitted to intensive care. He remains at Maputo Central Hospital, but is no longer in ICU.
After talking to the medical team and holding a brief conversation with Dilon Djindji, Eldevina Materula said that the Marrabenta icon was grateful for all the support he was being offered and was optimistic about his recovery.
“We came to give this hug in person, and, once again, to express that we are with him and that we are very grateful for his work. This is another gesture of affection that we are showing our Marrabenta master,” Minister Materula said.
Materula appealed to society in general to support the musician, indicating buying his CDs as perhaps the best way to provide assistance to both the musician and the family.
The musician’s son, António Dilon Djindji, said that his father’s health was generally improving, although he had suffered relapses which worried the family.
Doctor on duty Anilsa Daniel confirmed that the artist was stable and improving, but still needed special care. “He came in seriously [ill], but has shown some improvement. He is a patient who needs attention from all teams on duty. We are committed to doing our best”.
