Minister visits Chibuto Heavy Sands project

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Minister Of Natural Resources and Energy Carlos Zacarias visited the Chibuto Heavy Sands project last Thursday (10-13), and expressed satisfaction with the progress of production, which started on an experimental basis in June 2021 and has already exported about 3,000 of titanium and zircon-rich ore.

After visiting the various units of the plant and meeting the operator, the minister said that the government would continue to create the necessary conditions for the company to activate all its processing units according to schedule. One of the current constraints concerns the energy that future units will need, and solution options are already being evaluated, he said.

Zacarias noted that the licensing of the proposed dry dock to speed the flow of mineral products, currently carried out by land, is still in progress.

The Chibuto heavy sands mine is one of the largest deposits in the world.
