Africa-Press – Mozambique. Governor of Cabo Delgado province Valige Tauabo on Sunday delivered 39 fishing supplies kits to fishermen returning to the district of Mocimboa da Praia. The kits comprise in total eight marine engines, 11 fishing nets, 10 cooler boxes and 10 ‘palanque’ set-ups.
The action aims to provide returning fishermen and women with the tools to carry out subsistence activities and guarantee food for families, as well as income generation.
Speaking at the hand-over ceremony in Mocimboa da Praia, Governor Tauabo explained that the delivery came in response to concerns expressed by fishermen at the last hand-over of fishing inputs. The delivery of the material is expected to increase fish catches and reduce the use of fishing gear that is harmful to marine species.
