Africa-Press – Mozambique. A multi-sectoral team on Wednesday found more than four hundred million meticais [around US$6.2 million at current exchange rates] hidden in a mobile phone store in Maputo city, NotÃcias reports.
The team was made up of officials from the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), the National Inspectorate for Economic Activities (INAE), and the Mozambican Tax Authority (AT).
The store belongs to a citizen of Asian origin, who is being sought by the police. A source close to the owner of the store, present at the place, confirmed his absence, without offering further details.
An official from the Mozambique Tax Authority said that the origin of the money was yet to be determined, but that the authorities hoped to be able to provide more details in the coming days.
