Africa-Press – Mozambique. The family of Mozambican rapper Edson “Azagaia” da Luz will receive one million meticais in support, the amount raised during a Sunday evening fundraiser broadcast live on TV Sucesso.
“I’m speechless. It’s an extremely pleasant surprise. Thank you very much,” said Rosa da Luz, the rapper’s visibly moved widow.
The sum was donated by people who connect with the stories and causes presented in the ‘Mocambique em Concerto’ programme, in which this type of fundraising usually occurs.
In the first 25 minutes, donors had already given more than half a million meticais.
The programme’s presenter, Gabriel Júnior, said that the amount would be delivered this Monday.
“We will deliver the funds tomorrow (Monday),” he said.
According to TV Sucesso, the rapper’s family were forced to leave their home by the recent rains flooding the city and province of Maputo.
