Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said Thursday that terrorist activities in the northern region of the country are not a result of religious conflicts.
Filipe Nyusi spoke during a meeting with foreign missionaries [fromThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often informally known as the LDS Church or Mormon Church] in Maputo, who are visiting the country.
“There are many who relate the terrorism that devastates the province of Cabo Delgado, as being the result of religious conflicts, which is not true, because among the terrorists are all types of people, with different religions, races and origins,” said Nyusi.
The president added that Mozambique is a secular state, and he looks to religion as part of the solution for development.
“We want the presence of religions in the country to be a contribution to human development, and we thank you for the humanitarian support you have given us, especially for the support given to those displaced in the north of the country,” said Nyusi.
