Africa-PressMozambique. Fifteen district commands of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Tete province each received a new vehicle each as part of the reinforcement of their operational capacity on Monday.

Speaking at the handover on Monday, Secretary of State for Tete province, Elisa Zacarias, called on the district commanders to use the vehicles effectively and maintain and safeguard them.

“We must be careful to discipline drivers, with a view to discouraging the misuse of vehicles, especially for purposes outside the services,” she warned.

In turn, the provincial commander of the PRM in Tete, Ania Jagaje, explained that police officers are citizens too, and so susceptible to deviant behaviour, but measures were taken within the corporation to curb these tendencies.

“We have a disciplinary regulation within the PRM, based on which we apply measures to correct bad behaviour,” she said.

She also revealed that an investigation was underway into the behaviour of the 58 members of an alleged religious sect who were arrested by the PRM in Tsangano district this month.
