Africa-PressMozambique. The Mozambican health authorities on Tuesday reported 32 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and two deaths.

According to a Tuesday press release from the Health Ministry, the latest victims were both Mozambican men, aged 24 and 43. One died in Maputo, and one in Manica. This brought the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique to 1,912.

Since the start of the pandemic, 901,901 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,342 of them in the previous 24 hours. 1,310 of the tests yielded negative results, while 32 people tested positive for the coronavirus. This brought the number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 150,572.

Of the new cases identified on Tuesday, 21 were men or boys and 11 were women or girls. Three were children under the age of 15 and four were over 65 years old.

In none of the 11 provinces did the number of positive cases go into double figures. There were eight cases in Nampula, six in Maputo city, six in Inhambane, five in Gaza, three in Cabo Delgado, two in Niassa, one in Sofala and one in Maputo province. No cases were reported from Tete, Manica or Zambezia.

The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the coronavirus) on Tuesday was 2.4 per cent. This compares with 2.1 per cent on Monday, 5.2 per cent on Sunday, 2.9 per cent on Saturday and 3.5 per cent on Friday.

In the same 24 hour period, six Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital (four in Nampula, one in Zambezia and one in Maputo) and three new cases were admitted (one in Maputo, one in Cabo Delgado and one in Manica).

The number of people receiving medical care in the Covid-19 treatment centres fell from 38 on Monday to 33 on Tuesday. 16 of these patients (48.5 per cent) were in Maputo. There were also ten patients in Nampula, three in Inhambane, two in Niassa, one in Cabo Delgado and one in Zambezia. No Covid-19 patients were hospitalised in the other five provinces.

In the same 24 hour period, 255 people were declared to have made a full recovery from Covid-19 (182 in Nampula, 65 in Cabo Delgado, five in Gaza and three in Zambezia). The total number of recoveries now stands at 146.843, or 97.5 per cent of all those diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.

The number of active Covid-19 cases fell from 2,038 on Monday to 1.813 on Tuesday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Maputo city, 795 (43.8 per cent of the total); Nampula, 401; Maputo province, 307; Cabo Delgado, 147; Inhambane, 52; Gaza, 37; Niassa, 26; Zambezia, 25; Sofala, 15; Tete, four; and Manica, four.
