Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities reported only 36 cases of the respiratory disease Covid-19 on Sunday (which compares with 55 on Saturday and 69 on Friday).
According to a Sunday press release from the Ministry of Health, to date 900,080 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 687 of them in the previous 24 hours.
651 of the tests yielded negative results and 36 people tested positive for the virus. This brings the number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 150,530.
Of the new cases identified on Sunday, 26 were men or boys and ten were women or girls. Four were children under the age of 15, and no cases over the age of 65 were reported.
13 of the new cases (36.1 per cent) were from the central province of Manica. There were also five cases from Gaza, four each from Nampula, Inhambane and Maputo city, three from Zambezia, two from Niassa, and one from Sofala. No positive cases were reported from Cabo Delgado, Tete or Maputo province.
The positivity rate (the percentage of those tested found to be carrying the coronavirus) on Sunday was 5.2 per cent. The rate was 2.9 per cent on Saturday, 3.5 per cent on Friday, five per cent on Thursday, and five per cent on Wednesday.
Over the same 24 hour period, just one Covid-19 patient was discharged from hospital (in Maputo), and no new cases were admitted anywhere in the country.
The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment facilities fell slightly from 39 on Saturday to 38 on Sunday. 17 of these patients (44.7 per cent) were in Maputo. There were also 11 patients in Nampula, four in Niassa, two in Zambezia, two in Inhambane, one on Tete and one in Gaza. No Covid-19 patients were hospitalised in any of the other four provinces.
The Ministry release added that, in the previous 24 hours, no further deaths from Covid-19 were reported. Thus the Mozambican death toll from the disease remains 1,909.
Over the previous 24 hours, 52 people were declared fully recovered from Covid-19 (33 in Niassa, 14 in Gaza and five in Zambezia). The total number of recoveries now stands at 146,554, or 97.4 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The number of active Covid-19 cases fell from 2,089 on Saturday to 2,073 on Sunday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Maputo city, 790 (38.1 per cent of the total); Nampula, 573; Maputo province, 305; Cabo Delgado, 209; Inhambane, 51; Zambezia, 43; Gaza, 37; Niassa, 24; Manica, 20; Sofala. 14; and Tete, seven.
