Mozambique: 9 killed in road accidents in Inhambane

Africa-PressMozambique. Nine people died and an equal number were seriously injured in six road accidents associated with non-compliance with the Covid-19 public calamity decree in the province of Inhambane last weekend.

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Inhambane indicated excessive speed associated with driving while intoxicated as the causes of these accidents, which include collisions between vehicles, leaving the road, overturning and being run over.

One of the accidents, in the Phambara region, Vilankulo district this Sunday, killed four individuals of Malawian nationality.

PRM spokesperson Juma Aly Dauto condemned the attitude of motorists taking advantage of the alleviating of some Covid-19 preventive measures to commit offences.

Such irregularities led to the seizure of more than 500 vehicles at various inspection posts in the province over the weekend.
